About

Sahifah is [who runs it — for example, a teacher and his students, or the Islamic studies department of a school]. It exists to fill a gap: a great deal of Islamic writing online is either too short to say anything or too technical to be read by anyone outside a seminary. The middle — a properly sourced essay that a working adult can finish in one sitting — is thin. So the aim is simple: publish less, source it properly, and let it be long when the subject is long.

The name is the Arabic ṣaḥīfah — a page, a sheet, a written record. Its plural, ṣuḥuf, is the word the Qur’an uses for the scrolls of Ibrāhīm and Mūsā in Sūrat al-Aʿlā, and it was used for the earliest written collections of hadith. It carries the sense intended here: something set down deliberately rather than said in passing.

What we publish

Four things, and nothing else.

• Articles — long-form essays on the Qur’an, the Sunnah, fiqh and Islamic history. [How often — for example, one a month.]
• Answers — a published archive of rulings. Questions are put privately; only the ruling is published, and only afterwards.
• Resources — printable PDFs, free to download, in two sections: Islamic material for practice and worship, and academic material for study and reference.
• Publications — books and workbooks, printed in short runs and priced to be bought and used.

How we source

Every claim about a text is checked against the text. Qur’anic citations give the sūrah and verse; hadith citations give the collection and number, and the grading where it matters. Where the schools differ, the difference is set out rather than flattened into a single answer with the disagreement hidden.

Translations are attributed. Where a translation is our own, we say so.

Answers

The rulings in the archive are given by [his name, and a line on his training — where he studied, and which school he follows]. Questions are received privately, and names, places and identifying details are removed before anything is published. An entry is withdrawn on request, without argument.

A ruling answers one person’s circumstances. It is published so that the reasoning is visible, not so that it can be lifted and applied to a case it was never addressed to. If your situation is different, ask.

The site carries no advertising. Articles, answers and resources are free, and always will be. The books are sold at a price that covers printing, shipping and a modest margin that pays for the next one. Reuse

Everything published here may be copied, printed and shared freely, including in schools, mosques and study circles, provided nothing is altered and the attribution stays in place. You do not need to ask. If you need a resource in a different paper size, write and we will send it.
